My Commitment
Have you heard about “Shokuiku”?
Shokuiku食育 is Japanese word which is a food and nutrition education program in Japan. There is a law in Japan promoting it and the law defines it as the "acquisition of knowledge about food and nutrition, as well as the ability to make appropriate decisions through practical experience with food, with the aim of developing people's ability to live on a healthy diet".
I am very interested in this Shokuiku because I believe education of food is essential for human. I studied nursing in Japan and Australia, so I really care about promoting health and preventing sick. I know people sometimes ignore their health especially when they are healthy, but all human need to eat. There is no one living without food, thus the first approach to health can be the food education. Moreover, food education should start as soon as possible in their age, if possible, when they start eating.
I am planning to become a mother and I would like to teach correct knowledge about food and nutrition to my children. I think my parents were very good at it and I really appreciate what they did for me. So, I would like to give similar experience; however, a problem is that I am not living in Japan where I grew up. To be honest, I am anxious this problem, because Australia is the second highest rate of obesity and I do not know what to teach about it in Australia.
I have decided to live and raise children in Australia although I just cannot rely on food education in Australia. Therefore, I decided to learn the Japanese style of food and nutrition education for my children and I would like to record this learning on my blog. It may help not only me but others as well. I was thinking there may be so many parents who straggling children’s eating habits and seeking help. I research about Shokuiku but could not fine English information online. Consequently, I would like to send my learning to the world.
English is my second language, so you may find incorrect sentences.
It would be great help if you leave a comment for me.
Thank you for reading!
