Supply shortage in the Britain

Listen to the most recent episode of my podcast: Learning from supply shortage in Britain

I read an interesting article about a supply shortage in Britain. Several resources such as The Economist and The Guardian weekly reported that the recent days, Britain has had a serious problem of shortages in various sectors including food supply, construction materials, and computer chips because eased regulations encourage people to buy more products and demand surpluses supply. Besides, consumers have changed their consumption patterns    more using more online shopping.

Additionally, Brexit makes people and goods stop entering Britain; therefore, a shortage of heavy-goods vehicle (HGV) drivers also accelerates the worsening of the situation. The articles also mentioned harsh HGV driver's working conditions and their works are getting much busier but not having increased wages.

I guess the condition of HGV drivers is not so good. I do not know the reasons, but truck drivers are not treated well in many countries, although their work is very hard.

This may sound stupid, but I cannot work as a truck driver due to my poor driving skills. They drive a long period of time and a long distance, so some drivers do not get home for more than a week if they go far away from their home. It is really harsh, and they should be appreciated for their work and get good payment. By the way, last week I saw the news, that truck drivers in Australia also went on a strike to claim the improvement of the driver's working condition.

I also thought that it was possible that similar shortages would happen in many places in the world because Britain is one of the fastest countries to return to normal life from COVID-19. When the situation settled and people started living like before, they wanted to go shopping and eat at restaurants more frequently and buy a lot of products. I have been under lockdown in Sydney for 12 weeks now and I am getting sick and tired of staying at home.

I guess everyone has the same idea, but if suddenly people start buying, a shortage around me is likely to happen as well. Taking notice of this article may help me in the future.
