It’s Saturday today.
I like spending relaxing time Saturday evening.
So, I am writing this early time today.
There is so many sad news in the world. I feel a little bit down.
I read news regarding a death of a foreign woman in March.
A young Sri Lankans woman was in a detention centre, and she requested medical attention due to her illness. However, officers are ignoring her appeal and left for more than 3 months.
This story is unbearable to read…
How come this like things happen.
This may be extreme case of discrimination.
But it is true that there is ignorance about discrimination in Japan.
I confess that I had a discriminatory idea when I was in Japan.
To correctly say, I did not know that what is discrimination.
In Japan, most people are Japanese, and very few are people from foreign countries.
I have not often met people from foreign countries, therefore when I saw them, I had a special feeling such as worries and interesting.
Besides, I did not how to treat them.
But I think this is wrong.
After I left Japan, I became a foreigner in Australia.
I was little surprised that Australian treated me as normal.
Because I treated people from foreign countries as special.
They respect my rights even my English was poor to understand everything.
Let me tell about my experience in Australia
The beginning of my life in Australia, I started to housekeeping job.
I negotiated my rate and work with local people, and they are always kind and thoughtful.
Of course, I was very lucky to meet such nice people.
This experience makes me think deeply about discrimination.
The word “special” is basically positive, but in this context, "special" may negative because it makes difference between people, which may mean discrimination.
Omotenashi *may be good for tourist, but it is harmful for foreigners living in Japan.
This topic is very sensitive, so I hope not hurting any one.
*Japanese means to entertain guests wholeheartedly
English is my second language, so you may find incorrect sentences.
It would be great help if you leave a comment for me.
Thank you for reading!
またちょっと難しい問題ですが、日本の差別について思うことを書いてみました。
その立場になってみないとわからないこともありますよね。
私も自分が外国人の経験ができると、昔は思っていなかったです。
日本に差別のない社会ができることを祈っています。
