Today I read the Internet news which reported about backlash to a Japanese influencer.

He is one of my favourite persons and I was very disappointed with his remarks.

Usually, I agreed with his opinions which I can fine justice.

However, the resource said that he made remarks including abuse human rights to homeless people and people living on welfare.

He stated that “I do not care about homeless people’s lives, we are better off without him.”

I have not watched the controversial YouTube video, therefore I may change my opinion later. But this remark is too far to accept in the society.

Now I can say it is unacceptable wards, but to tell the truth I had a same idea before.

When I came to Australia, I saw quite many homeless people on the street. Then, I thought Why they do not work, even they can speak English fluently. I cannot speak English, but I am living strongly.”

That’s really terrible!

Now I can say his idea is totally wrong.

Have you heard about a word “epigenetics”?

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, USA, epigenetics is “the study of how your behaviors and environment can cause changes that affect the way your genes work”. *1

If people who are born in the poverty may change their genes, and they continue to have handicaps in the social situation. Moreover, surprisingly this genetic change can pass to a grandchildren’s generation.

Consequently, some people have disadvantages not only the environment but also in their genes when they are already born. This advantage can be either health problem or poverty.

(I am a not specialist regarding epigenetics, so I am so sorry if I am saying incorrect information.)

When I was in University, I learn an idea of epigenetics in public health class.

In Australia, there are serious health and social problems among the indigenes people. Some people are on welfare, and they may look just lazy.

However, the fact is that they may have genetic change through the history.

I taught that as a nurse, we should understand that point and treat them with respect.

It is very sensitive and challenging topic to discuss.

But recent study showed that various disadvantages can be pass through our genes, and it is significantly hard to overcome handicaps. The poverty may be genetic.

Therefore, we cannot say that they are just lazy, and they can change their future if they try harder. I think that it is not such easy thing.

English is my second language, so you may find incorrect sentences.

It would be great help if you leave a comment for me.

Thank you for reading!

people living on welfare;生活保護受給者

poverty; 貧困

貧困問題って本当に複雑だと思います。

一般的に貧困は環境要因で遺伝じゃないなんて言われていますが、遺伝する可能性もあるようです。
